Inspiration

I'm inspired by nature and my environment.  At it's best nature provides us with only balanced views; the sky frames our landscapes and skylines while the Earth grounds us and gives frame of reference.  Nature is a great teacher when it comes to hierarchical placement and designing for emphasis.

Take this example, I was on the train headed to DC the other day and instead of reading or listening to music I chose to gaze out the window and  let the scenery guide my thoughts After a while the leafless trees began to all look the same but when we got to Seabrook, my eyes began picking out certain trees and focusing on them.  These trees were not just leafless, but they had fallen at crazy angles which broke up the monotony. They forced my eyes to pick them out of the crowd. That's what's known as a baseline shift in typography.  See what I mean
